Our school doesn't have many rules but the ones we do have to be obeyed and if they aren't there are great consequences. Some rules we have I agree with others I don't some are kind of stupid and others necessary. It really just depends on they way you look at things. If I could I would change a couple.
One rule that I would change would be the gum rule. Yes gum can make big messes and it is hard to clean but students should be trusted sometimes. Maybe a way to control the gum would be that when a student was in class they could have gum but when they leave they have to spit it out. Even with the gum rule at our school kids are constantly chewing gum and getting written up for it they don't care. Most likely kids will keep bring the gum and chewing it until one principal finally gives in and lifts the rule. It has been proven that when kids have gum they work better that's why we get gum when we have the S.T.A.R test. The teachers here could probably get together and brain storm and find ways to let kids chew gum but without it becoming a problem. However first we have to get a principal to get the rule lifted.
The second rule that I would change would be the cell phone rule. At our school the rule for phones is don't bring it and if you do it must be turned off at all times. Cell phones can be a distraction to most kids and that's why I think they aren't allowed. Having a cell phone when you're in middle school means that you want to have it with you at all times which at school isn't good idea because you miss you on what you're suppose to be learning. However it would be nice if maybe when you were at break that you could use it and then have to turn it off. Maybe even if the teachers would let us have a day where we could use our phones freely the problem with phones wouldn't be as bad. This might or might not help but I think that teachers should try to lighten up a little bit when it comes to these things.
The third rule is the iPod rule I think that it should be tweaked just a little bit. We are allowed to have iPods at school which is awesome but only for lunch and first break. The two times we have to listen is only about forty-five minutes which really isn't that much. However some teachers like Mrs.Benites and Mrs.Berley they let you listen to your music as long as it doesn't distract you or affect your work. I think that more teachers should be more open to this idea. Letting more kids listen to their own music might motivate them to do their work. Some teachers might not agree with this idea but they should give it a try to see if it would work.
Some rules should be changed others just terminated because they're useless. Occasionally some rules are needed like gun rules and drug rules but others like run and bikes are not that necessary.
